September!

Well, here we are It's late September, and as Rod Stewart says,"I really should be back at school.", but unfortunately, my school days are nothing more than a distant memory. In just a few days the Autumnal Equinox will be upon us. Say what you will about the beauty of Spring, Autumn is my favorite time of year! I think because the summers here in the mid-Atlantic states are often so brutal, Autumn comes as such a blessed relief. But cooler temperatures and lower humidity, are not the only thing that makes Autumn so welcome. We have loads of deciduous trees, and if the conditions are just right, the entire Piedmont will come ablaze in mid to late October. Just up the road in the Blue Ridge Mountains, the peak time for Fall foliage is the Early to mid October.

Skyline Drive and The Blue Ridge Parkway run from north to south, along the Blue Ridge Mountains through Virginia and North Carolina, and in October the traffic along these two lane mountain roads, can be bumper to bumper with tourists out to feast their eyes on the beauty of a Blue Ridge Mountain Fall.

Tonight for supper, I lightly whipped up two large eggs, and poured them onto a plate lubricated with olive oil. Then I added onions, green, yellow, and red bell pepper slices, and broccoli florets. I topped that off with three thin slices of Virginia smoked ham, sliced ripe tomatoes, and seasoned it with salt, fresh ground black pepper, garlic powder, and a good sprinkling of grated sharp cheddar cheese. I covered it with another plate, and put it in the microwave for seven and a half minutes. The result? Heaven on a plate!

I was checking my email a bit earlier, and the president of my support group announced that she had posted pictures of several of our girls, including herself, enjoying themselves at the annual Southern Comfort Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. It takes place every year in September. Looks like they had a good time. Everyone who goes to this conference seems to love it. It's been going on for 20 years now, and appears to have become the No. 1 trans-gender conference in the the US. Hard to believe that it was going on for over ten years, before I ever even learned about it. I've thought about going myself for several years now, but I really don't have the wardrobe for it. My wardrobe consists almost entirely of just normal everyday casual clothing, nothing fancy at all, and certainly no ball gowns. Now that might be OK for the daytime activities, but from what I have seen of the evening's activities, everyone is dressed to the nines! Oh, well! There is always next year. As popular as SCC has become, I'm sure it will be around for a while.

Something else comes up every September. My birthday! Yes, on September 21st, I will be 62 years old. That's right.......62 YEARS OLD!
I came from the generation that said. "Never trust anyone over 30!", and
now hear I am, 32 years past that deadline! Ah.........the folly of youth! Young people can never see themselves getting old, then one day, they turn fifty and look in the mirror, and suddenly they realize that they too are old. They look back over their shoulder, and wonder where in the hell their youth went! It all seemed like yesterday, but no, it was twenty or more years ago!

September usually represents the aging process. We have all heard of May/September romances, between a young and an old person, but I like to remember the old days of September in my youth, when the colleges dormitories, and off campus inner city apartments were filling up with new students for the new school year, and the prospect of great weekend parties and promising chance encounters loomed on the horizon. Those were happy innocent times.

Speaking of September, I know I am showing my age, but here is a song that always takes me back to those days. It really is a great old song, and played by an exceptional band of the time: September, by Earth Wind and Fire.

I went foolin' around with my post, after I already published it, and Stace posted a commented on it, and after diddling with it, it just took off, and flew away out into cyberspace! Something very strange,is going on, here!

Ah, so I'm not going more nuts than normal then wondering what happened :)

Anyway, take 2...

The picture is stunning. The colours are so much nicer than we get here - mostly pollution brown.

And happy birthday for the 21st!

We in central Ontario also have the brilliant displays of colour in late September and early October. Maybe I shouldn't broadcast this however. Bumper-to-bumper traffic, eh?

Getting all 'dolled up' does sound like a challenge. I guess that and the 'best legs' contest would be the two biggies as far as extreme physical challenge for a 'bloke' body like mine. I'd better start watching the caloric intake. ;P

Speaking of intake, that microwave dinner sounds amazing! I have never seen recipes like that one. I may be experimenting with that under-utilized device thanks to your description.

Like the picture! We have nothing to compare with these grand, sweeping views of high mountains clad in all the autumn colours. However, there there are plenty of woods around that, on a small scale, are wonderful to behold.

Happy Birthday in advance, Melissa.

The 70's when you cold wear just about anything and nobody would give you a second glance.

The ballgown thing would put me off your popular conference movement and must be off putting to many who do not feel that they can compete.

Happy birthday honey!!!

About the whole conference thingy? I have not been there as of yet either. Probably will never go. However, I did go to Espirit one year and was disappointed.
Well, every activity is optional. Every class is optional. You can still go and just be yourself after all, that's what it is all about anyway. It allows people to do what they want. You can wear jeans and a top or dress like Dolly Parton. I met a few that was waaaayy over the top and it emberassed me, and my honey. Yes, she went to.

By the way. I want to thank you so much for the really nice comment you leave and one in particular. You said (condensed)

"There is nothing at all the matter with you.........Face it sweetie, you are not a man any more, not even close, why pretend." Then at the end "God love you."

All of your followers follow you because of the wonderful, caring person you are. You are thoughtful, kind and very sweet. If ever there comes a day, I will find you, give you the biggest hug, then remind you of just how special you are. To me, and everyone else that you leave a comment for.

Just needed to say that!

Happy Birthday Sweetie!!

God love you!!!

Yummy, sounds good! I know just exactly what you mean about the avalanche of leaf peepers, we get more than our fair share of them in in NH! It does help boost our local economy, though, and that's a good thing, especially in years like this. An early HAPPY BIRTHDAY! to you! Mine is on the 25th, 45 this year.

What a Southern Belle you are! I simply adore you and the lovely way you can describe a plate of eggs! You're beautiful...I hope I look as good as you do when I'm 62! Love you!!!

And here I go through all the hassle of cooking such an omelet myself instead of letting my microwave do it. :)

If it weren't for imported trees, we'd have even less fall colour than we do. And even the imports sometimes don't help. The sycamore maple in our back garden just turns yellow. I do love the Appalachians at any time of year!

I've never been to SCC and won't be going now, but I have a feeling you can make of it what you will. I know there are serious evening parties, but what you pay for are the daytime conferences, and I bet there are plenty of people who don't party all night. Not at our age, eh? :) Happy Tuesday birthday!

Happy Birthday in advance Melissa! In a few short months I will be hitting the big 60. I always wondered how well I would age...is the fall of my life going to be colorful, or more like winter?

I have to say, so far, the fall of my life has been the best years of my life. My 35 yr marriage is getting better and better. I have discovered the truth about my lifelong crossdressing "habit." The new level of self-acceptance is making this a wonderful time of life. sure, there are lots of aches and pains, but all in all "it was a very good year."

I hope your life continues to get better and better. We all enjoy reading your posts, even when it's just about chasing a fly around the house...lol. You have brought much encouragement and companionship to many. Thanks for all you have done...all you are doing, and all you do in the future.

Hugs,
Suzi
