Oh Dear! I Tought I Had Lost You All!

I was having difficulties with my computer today. It seemed that I was frequently encountering what our dear sweet adorable Lori in Phoenix has described as, the "Mac, color wheel of death."

Those of you with Mac's surely know what I'm talking about. Suddenly your program freezes, and you are relegated to staring at a colorful spinning wheel, as though you were watching a perpetual edition of Wheel Of Fortune! No amount of mouse clicking, or "cntrol esc" punching can free you from this monster. You simply have to turn off your machine for an extended period of time, and allow all of the flip fops to resume to zero. (The term "flip flops" is an arcane reference to solid state devices, that store digital information in the binary language of ones and zeroes, not unlike we simple minded human beings, who store Gender information, strictly in the form of Male and Female!).

After three hours without power, I decided to re-boot my faithful I-Mac, and........Wal -la! There it was! Apparently, all it needed was a rest, to calm it's mind from all of the BS floating out there on the interwebs. True transsexuals, fake transsexual, misguided transvestites..............it all makes my head hurt!

Only you can determine who and what you are. Who is more transsexual than someone else? Who the hell cares?

I love all of you! Primary, Secondary, Type V, Type VI, Group I, or Group II, you are all in my heart, and you are all very dear to me!!!

You're very dear to me also, and quite a lovely lady. I'm glad you got your computer working again. Is the Lori you mentioned, the same Lori from good ole' 'A T Revival'? I only ask because she lives not in Phoenix, but just south of Tucson. :)

@ Amy

Yes indeed, sweetie! She's a doll, just like you!

have I been missing out on the cyber warrior action somewhere? Oh well... :-) My type is Times New Roman, usually.

Lori from Phoenix? i wondered who you were talking about! LOL! Actually I live in a itsy bitsy teenie weenie town south of Tucson that most people don't know, so I just say I'm from Tucson to make things easy.

The spinning wheel of death was resolved by the "I Win!" button... after all else fails and the computer tells you you're screwed, press and hold the power button for 3 seconds and "Voila!" you WIN!

By the way, there is a Force Quit option on black Apple logo at the top left that will bring up a menu where you can kill the bratty and offending program (usually a javascripting error). But then again, what do I know about computers? Hah. Glad all is well in the Macverse again. Love them Imacs too!

Ha! flip-flops... we are old, aren't we?! Computer components so big, you needed a fork lift to move 'em into the air-conditioned warehouse they called home! REAL computers!! :P

I'm no techie, but am familiar with the wheel of death; usually encountered when using "Safari". For some reason, on my mac at least, "Firefox" seems more reliable. It is a free download if you want to give it a try. As Lori suggests, the 'forcequit' option is superior to the holding down the button and killing the poor thing for a few minutes option, which is most definitely better than pulling out a few more hairs, which is what I have been known to do!

You are such a sweetie! Type A-1 in my books!!

Hugs

Color wheel of death? I'm jealous... when Windows locks up bad, all I get is a blue screen with lots of technical mumbo jumbo.

I'm a techie... or at least I used to be... and really, I could care less about the science of it... I just want it to work! LOL

As for the part about all of the BS floating around the blogosphere, I agree! When people start talking about psychological studies and white papers, types and classifications, it puts me to sleep. Unless of course... if I'm a Type VI does that mean I'll get a bigger discount on my surgery than if I'm a Type V?

Hi, Melissa! I'm so glad that we didn't loose you to the ''Color Wheel of Death'', it just wouldn't be the same without you! :-D

I sympathize and agree with your computer's need to unplug from all the ''true'' transsexual BS on the interweb. I try to avoid it entirely when it's coming from laymen from the outer fringe that have a personal agenda, but I occasionally look in on those and waste 5 minutes of my life to see what they're ranting about this time.

I sympathize completely with the color wheel of death (or of DOOOOOMMMM!). For some reason, I get it alot with Photoshop these days...something about Apple and Adobe.

I agree with you about the strange war of words that is going on right now. While I find it intellectually amusing, it all amounts to nothing because whatever "type" of transsexual I am or you are or anyone is doesn't give any one of us more right to speak on the subject than any other except in the defense of those being attacked. Mostly, we're all just managing this condition as best we can or, as some fortunate souls, correcting it and leaving it all behind in some manner.

Okay (gonna stop the politicking now...it's a silly season for it all), I'm just happy you're around :-)

xoxo

In my part of the world, flip-flops are something you wear on your feet. All of this terminology warfare is a bit absurd, we are all unique humans; or as someone said, we are Earthlings if men are from Mars and women are from Venus. As for me, let me sit on the 'group w bench' with Arlo.

I don't know what you're talking about, Anne. I don't know what Melissa could've possibly done to make you so angry. She's saying that only you can define who you are, and that you're all "very dear to me." You call it happy horseshit. I'm just wondering what you're getting at and what exactly is going on here. (Yes, I did read the posts linked in your comment.)

Anne, I think you will find that there are many who disagree with your opinion. But that's okay. We all have them. My opinion? If Melissa identifies as transsexual, then that's what she is. This is a condition, not the definition of a process that one goes through, i.e. surgery. I most definitely am a transsexual. I want GRS myself, but am unable to get it done at this time due to severe cash flow. Actually, there is no cash, therefore no flow! If I can never get this surgery, that doesn't void the fact that I'm a transsexual.

I suppose you don't believe in non-op transsexuals. Whether you believe in them or not, they are out there, and will continue to be until GRS is covered by healthcare (among other factors). Thank you for your time.

Amy K. said...

Well, Anne, since Calie is indeed a non-op TS, then there must be others. Unfortunately, you can't meet them all. Melissa and I do not live in Canada, UK, Australia, or New Zealand. We are from the US, and here it is NOT covered by health insurance. If it was, believe me, I would've had it years ago.

Amy K. said...

Blue Cross stopped covering GRS in March of 2008. Believe me, I know about the condition of health care in the US, as far as GRS or otherwise.

Amy K. said...

I don't know where SF is, but I'm guessing in another country from me. I can't afford a move to another country, much less to pay for the surgery myself at this point. You really don't know that much about me to be saying if it "works" or not. No it does not work for me at all, thank you very much!

Calie said...

Well...I show up late and see my name mentioned but I also see a batch of deleted comments, so I don't know the context in which my name was used...

Calie: Anne was saying that she thought a non-op transsexual to be a misnomer and a nonexistent thing. She said she met you and that changed her mind. Sadly, she didn't learn her lesson, and I suppose thinks that you are the only non-op ts. She referred to Melissa as a "man in a dress" among other things. Anyway, that was the gist of you being mentioned. :)
